Get two pages on every side
The tool always sends 2 as the number of pages per side. You do not set it, and the page shows no field for it. An 8-page PDF becomes a 4-page PDF, which prints double-sided on two sheets of paper.

Booklet imposition rearranges the pages of a document so that they can be printed on both sides of the paper, folded in half and stapled along the fold. Each side of a sheet carries two pages, and their order is set for folding instead of for reading on screen. On this page you add one PDF and run the job. The tool places two of your pages on each page of the result, so an 8-page file comes back as a 4-page PDF. The only setting is Add page border, which stays off until you tick it. The download looks out of order on screen. That is expected, because it is laid out for the printer.

In a folded booklet, the first and last pages sit on the same side of the outer sheet. Imposition makes those pairings for the whole document, so you do not shuffle pages by hand.
Tick Add page border to have a border requested with the booklet. Leave the box as it opens, unticked, for pages without an added line.
The download is an ordinary PDF. The tool does not talk to your printer, so you choose double-sided printing in your own print dialog and fold the stack afterward.
Drop the PDF for your booklet on the upload box, or press Choose file. Start from a file whose pages are already in reading order.
Leave Add page border off for plain pages, or tick it to have a border added. There is no other setting.
Press Run Booklet, then Download. Print the PDF double-sided, fold the sheets in half and staple along the fold.
Working out booklet order by hand is easy to get wrong: page 1 has to sit beside the last page, page 2 beside the second to last, and so on through the stack. This tool does the arrangement in one run and returns a PDF you can print on your own printer. Add page border is the one checkbox, and there is no form to fill in. One booklet runs without an account, your PDF is uploaded over HTTPS, and the free tier deletes the upload and the booklet automatically within 24 hours after the job finishes. The page shows no preview, and a page count that is not a multiple of four is padded with blank pages. Print one copy and fold it before you print a batch.

| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The pages look out of order on screen | They are in folding order, not reading order | Print one copy double-sided, fold it and check that it reads in order. |
| The last pages are blank | The page count is rounded up to a multiple of four with blank pages | This is expected. Add the pages you want there before you upload. |
| The backs of the sheets come out upside down | The file is laid out for flipping on the long edge, and your printer flips another way | Change the flip setting in your print dialog and test one sheet. |
| The pages are smaller than the original | Each page is scaled to fit half of a landscape sheet | Expected for a booklet. To change the paper size, run the result through Scale Pages. |
| You want several pages per sheet and no folding | A booklet is ordered for folding | Use N-up PDF layout instead. |
Programs, newsletters and service leaflets are often short enough to staple. Lay them out as a booklet and print them on an office printer.
A short story, zine or sample chapter becomes a folded proof copy you can hold, mark up and hand to a reader.
Price lists, menus and product guides exported as plain pages can be turned into a folded handout without layout software.

It is the step that arranges pages so a stack of sheets printed on both sides can be folded in half into a booklet that reads in order.
Two original pages share each page of the result. An 8-page PDF comes back with 4 pages, which is two sheets printed on both sides.
They are in folding order, not reading order. Once the sheets are printed double-sided and folded, the booklet reads from front to back.
A folded sheet holds four booklet pages, so a multiple of four fills every sheet. Other counts are padded with blank pages up to the next multiple of four. Add the pages you want there yourself if you need something other than blanks.
It asks for a border to be added to the booklet layout. The box is unticked when the page opens.
Open the downloaded PDF and print it double-sided from your own viewer. The tool has no print settings, so try one copy to confirm which way your printer flips the paper.
No, there is no size field. To change the page size of the result, run it through Scale Pages afterward.
