Reordering a PDF changes the sequence of its pages without changing what is on them. On this page you set the sequence by typing it. Enter the current page numbers in the order you want them to appear, separated by commas. For a three-page file, 3,1,2 puts the last page first. The tool has one field, New page order. It has no page thumbnails and no dragging, so open the PDF in a viewer and write down the order before you start. The result is a new PDF to download, and the file on your device stays as it was.

What can you do when you reorder PDF pages?

Set the order in one line

The New page order field takes the page numbers of your current file, separated by commas. The first number you type becomes the first page of the result, the second number becomes the second page, and so on.

Move one page or reshuffle them all

Swap two pages, bring a page to the front, or reverse a short document. Each time you write out the whole list, because the field asks for every page in the order you want.

Catch an empty field before it runs

New page order is a required field. If you press the run button while it is empty, the field is marked as required and no job starts.

Reorder first, number second

Anything printed on a page moves with it, including old page numbers. If the document needs numbers, set the order here and then stamp them with the page number tool, so they follow the new sequence.

What reordering keeps and changes

Stays the same

  • The content of every page you list, exactly as it was.
  • Text printed on the pages, such as page numbers, headers and footers. It is not rewritten.
  • The file on your device.

Changes

  • The result has exactly the pages you list, in the order you list them. A page you leave out is not in the result.
  • A page number typed twice appears once, at its first position.
  • A number that is zero, past the last page or not a number is skipped without an error.
  • Ranges such as 3-5 are accepted, and the word all adds every page.

How to type the new order

  3. Run it and download

Press Run Reorder Pages. When the result card appears, press Download and page through the file to confirm the order.

Why reorder PDF pages with indox?

A typed order suits the job when you already know what has to move. If page 7 belongs after page 2, one line does it, with no thumbnails to load and no tiles to drag on a small screen. The tool does one thing: it takes one PDF and one list, and it returns one PDF. indox passes your list to the PDF engine as you typed it, so the result follows your line and nothing else. Your pages are moved, and no option on this page touches their content. Reordering a single file needs no sign-up. The file is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection and, on the free tier, deleted on its own within 24 hours after the job ends.

  • One field to fill in: New page order
  • Works from a typed list such as 3,1,2
  • Page content is moved as it is
  • A separate PDF to download, source file left alone
  • No sign-up for a single file

What are the limits when you reorder PDF pages?

Size
Guests have a lower file size limit. Signing in raises it; a paid plan does not change it.
Formats
This tool works on PDF files. To change a file's type, use the PDF converter.
Privacy
Files are encrypted in transit and processed on indox infrastructure.
Deletion
Free-tier files are deleted automatically within 24 hours after the job finishes. Signed-in output stays in your history for your plan's retention period.

Limits worth knowing

  • There is no drag and drop and no page preview. You see the file name and size only, so work out the order in a PDF viewer first.
  • You type the whole order by hand, which is quick for a short file and slow for a long one. For a long PDF, the Extract pages tool accepts ranges and returns pages in the order you list them, so 10,1-9 moves page 10 to the front.
  • The list is sent as typed. This page does not compare it with your page count before the job starts, so count your entries and make sure each page appears once.
  • Text printed on the pages is not rewritten. A table of contents page and printed page numbers still show the old positions after the move.
  • The tool has no password field and takes one file per job. Remove an open password before you upload, and note that it cannot bring in pages from a second PDF.

Who reorders PDF pages?

  • People who scan in batches

A stack went through the scanner in the wrong sequence, or the cover sheet came out last. Type the right sequence and the scan reads in order.

  • Anyone assembling a report or application

An appendix has to sit before the references, or a signed page belongs at the front. Move it with one typed line before you send the file.

  • Teachers and students

Handout and assignment pages exported from different apps often land out of sequence. Put them in reading order before you print or submit.

When to reorder pages

  • The cover page ended up at the back of a scan.
  • Two pages were scanned in each other's place.
  • A short document was scanned back to front and needs reversing, for example 4,3,2,1.
  • A signature page has to move to the end of a contract before it goes out.

Reorder PDF pages FAQs

Can I drag and drop pages to reorder them?

No, this tool shows no page thumbnails. You type the order in the New page order field.

How do I write the page order?

Enter the current page numbers in the sequence you want, with a comma between them. For a four-page file, 2,1,3,4 swaps the first two pages.

Do I have to list every page?

Yes, the field asks for every page in the order you want. If the file is long, Extract pages takes ranges and keeps the order you list, which saves typing.

How do I move a single page?

Write the full list with that page in its new place. To move page 5 of a five-page file to the front, type 5,1,2,3,4.

How do I reverse the page order of a PDF?

List the pages from last to first. For a three-page file that is 3,2,1.

Will printed page numbers update after I reorder?

No, a number printed on a page moves with that page and keeps its old value. Add page numbers after you reorder.

What if I get the order wrong?

Run the tool again with a corrected list. Start from your original file, which is still unchanged on your device.

Do I need an account to reorder a PDF?

A single reorder needs no account. Signing in raises the file size limit; a paid plan adds credits but does not change that limit.
