Stocks and Bonds
Schedule B (Form 706) is the stocks and bonds schedule of the federal estate tax return. The About Form 706 page says that if the total gross estate contains any stocks or bonds, this schedule is used to report those assets. Line 1 lists every stock and bond included in the decedent's gross estate, and lines 2 to 4 total them for Form 706, Part V, item 2.
The schedule is not filed on its own. The form says "Attach to Form 706." It is completed as part of the return that the executor of a decedent's estate files, and its heading asks for the decedent's name as it appears on Form 706 and the decedent's social security number.

For an unlisted security, show the company's principal business office. For inactive or close corporation stock, the instructions say to attach the financial data used to set the value, including balance sheets and 5 years of earnings and dividends.

The instructions ask for copies of broker quotation letters or evidence of sale used for values, and correspondence used for securities reported as of no value, which are listed last.
The instructions say dividends declared before death but payable to holders of record after death are not includible in the gross estate and are not listed here.
